Two members of my immediate family served in World War One. My great-grandfather, Frederick Archibald Hodgkins Senior, a driver befor the war broke out, joined the Army Service Corps. His son and namesake, Frederick Archibald Hodgkins joined the Middlesex Regiment (often known as the Footballer’s Regiment) was killed at the Battle of Cambrai on 20th November 1917. He is buried in Oxford Road Cemetry near Ypres.
