    For example:
-I’ve learn’t that Cristabel Pankhurst used suffragette funds to buy Tower Cressey and made it into a Nursery. 🙂

-I’ve learn’t that in Portobello Road there was an Electric Cinema that closed due to disturbances in 1916 after The Trading with the enemy Amendment. D:

  • Eric Kennington joined the 13th Battalion, who were also billeted at White City before they were sent to France. As it was largely owned by German share-holders, attacks on the Electric Cinema were common. Bad feelings reached a peak on 9th October when a man named Frank Vennell threw motor oil all over the building. Several other men and women also appeared in court, charged with assault, throwing stones and banana peels, creating a disturbance. The cinema was closed in 1916. When WW1 started, the Suffragettes declared that they would suspend their battle for women’s rights in order to support the war effort.

  • The suffragette party abandoned their objectives to take part in the common efforts. Interesting how wars can overrule even the most unshakeable people’s goals.
